ABSTRACT

Digital Transformation introduces fast changes and revolutions in a people's way of living. Economic market globalization is a decisive factor for a country's sustainability, appearing technology everywhere and everything seems centered on machines and processes. Companies must survive and, more than ever, maintain or gain a competitive advantage. The literature is rich in the argument that the Human Resources of an organization are its main asset. However, the world is exchanging and Covid19 is becoming the accelerator of one of the most disruptive workplace transformations in recent years: new rules, new job profiles, new skills are needed, and Human Resources must be prepared for this alteration. How to develop the required labor force? More than ever, it is essential to recognize how to encourage students and teachers to bring Higher Education closer to the labor market and increase the awareness of tomorrow's leaders in the need of generating a sustainable future. This paper focuses its research on the study of the perceptions of master's students at the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave, based in Portugal. For the empirical study, it was used a questionnaire based on the 21st century competences namely: Social, Business, Industry-specific, and Entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The study allows concluding that most IPCA students have a positive perception regarding the relevance of non-cognitive skills even if the cognitive skills are also important for digital transformation.

ABSTRACT

The tourism industry is being severely affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This paper aims to analyse how the COVID-19 pandemic affects the behaviour of Portuguese tourists towards travels and how the likelihood of their intention to deeply change behaviour is different according to their sociodemographic characteristics, the pattern of past trips, and the level that it has affected their life and work. With the results of a survey, factor analysis was made and with the scores of the extracted factors, logistic models were estimated. The results suggest that the Portuguese tourists are mainly concerned about health and safety in travel and the likelihood of having a major concern is greater for women and for those most affected by the pandemic, varying also with age. The chance of reducing more their travel plans is also higher for individuals who have been deeply affected by the pandemic. This research highlights the potential changes in tourists behaviour due to the pandemic and recommends some policies and practices for the sector. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The world is shifting. The pandemic has changed paradigms, and people have reacted by trying to find solutions for problems. New challenges arise, and, more than ever, people must understand that the future depends on the way they face the present. The COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the need to collectively work in accordance to our realities. Co-creation, entrepreneurship, holistic thinking, and creativity are huge contributions that can make a difference. This chapter aims to explain and share best practices of Portugal and Brazil to mitigate COVID-19 impacts. Using primary data, a presentation is made between a varied set of measures and actions carried out by the two countries, similar in language but different in cultures and realities. The results could be practical guidelines for potential implementation elsewhere. The conclusion seems to point out that solutions require involvement for all stakeholders, with innovation and critical behaviour as means to pursue the path of sustainable development. © 2021, IGI Global.
